Previous Months
November 2024 Mitzvot
Veteran’s Village of San Diego’s mission is to help veterans overcome homelessness and related challenges serving more than 3,000 veterans across San Diego County.
Our Ner Tamid Community has the opportunity to help contribute to this wonderful organization.
High Holidays 2024 Mitzvot
We participated again this year in JFS’s holiday food drive. Our community collected over 600 lbs of food.
Summer 2024 Mitzvot
We participated again this year in JFS’s backpack drive. The backpacks provide families in need with the supplies to help their children succeed in school.
June 2018
We collected gently used books ranging from children's literature to adult. These books were donated to the thrift store associated with the Women's Resource Center in Oceanside. The Women's Resource Center provides support services, shelter, and counseling to women, children, and men who have been affected by domestic violence or sexual assault. Clients of theirs receive vouchers to shop in the thrift store and the general public may shop there as well, all proceeds going back to the center to help provide those services.
September 2018
We kicked off our Mitzvah of the Month program in September 2018. Our first mitzvah was aimed at reducing hunger insecurity in San Diego. We collected food between Yom Kippur and Sukkot which was donated to the Jewish Family Services (JFS) "Hand Up Food Pantry."
October 2018
We participated in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes through the San Diego YWCA's Becky's House programs to end domestic violence. We look forward to making this an annual event, supporting this nationally recognized program that helps women, men, and children transitioning out of violent situations into independent, peaceful lives.
November 2018
We Gave Thanks with our local interfaith community. Cantor Bromerg co-led 2 interfaith services to show our gratitude for a supportive interfaith community during these times of increased antisemitism and violence. If you'd like to learn more about our local interfaith organizations, please visit the POINT or Escondido Together websites.
December 2018:
We donated dozens of new children's books to Light One Little Candle. Their mission is to encourage cancer patients who are also caregivers to continue to bond with their children throughout their illness by reading books together that have nothing to do with cancer. Locally, these books went to UCSD's Moore's Cancer Center.
January 2019
We participated in the 10th annual Martin Luther King Day of Interfaith Community Service at Balboa Park with a morning of park cleanup!
February 2019
Bal Tashchit - do not waste! We learned about composting and how we could implement it at Ner Tamid and at home from an Armstrong Garden Center expert!
March 2019
Double Header! First, we put together 100! care packages for the homeless! Members donated items and the Hebrew School kids assembled the packages to give to those in need of basic necessities. Then, we participated in Sharon's Ride (Walk/Bike/Run) for the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego. Go Team Sophia!
April 2019
We made 100 lunches for Interfaith Community Services. Every day they serve breakfast to those in need and send them off with a sack lunch. This was a great event for volunteers of all ages to contribute!
May 2019
We went to the Escondido Humane Society to learn about what they do and help take care of farm animals.
