We hope you have landed on this page because you like what you see on our website or at a visit to our synagogue.  We are often asked some basic questions, which are answered below.

What makes Ner Tamid different from other congregations in the area?

We pride ourselves on being small enough to recognize visitors and new members and offer them a warm welcome.  You'll find our congregants to be friendly and eager to make you feel at home.  Each congregant brings his or her own natural gifts that enrich us all.

We are located on a peak above a small canyon off Pomerado Road. Our sanctuary was designed to integrate nature and the beautiful views it offers.  In summer, we hold Friday night services out on the patio.

We love to welcome new people and are a diverse group of Jews - including Jews of Color, Jews by Choice, interfaith families, LGBT+, and Jews from all over the world! If you don't feel like you belong at other synagogues, this might just be the place for you! If you grew up as a secular Jew and want to learn more about your Judaism; if you grew up Conservative and haven't been to synagogue lately; if you just moved to the area and area and are looking for a friendly new community - come spend a Shabbat with us!

Who belongs to Ner Tamid?

Our congregants are older, younger, single or divorced, families, empty nesters, interfaith families, Jews by choice, those who are more observant, and those who are less observant, members of the LGBT+ community. We welcome everyone.

Our members come from all over San Diego: Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Ranch, the City of San Diego and all points north and east: Escondido, Valley Center, Ramona, San Marcos, Fallbrook, even the Temecula Valley.

Some members join though they never intend to be physically close to the Poway/Rancho Bernardo area.  Others maintain their spiritual attachment to our synagogue long after their lives take them farther away.

We are proud that we create such enduring bonds.

Do you have a Hebrew School?

We are very proud of the Ner Tamid Shul School and welcome children of all ages.

Ner Tamid is a fun and educational environment for tots. Our child guided programs are simply perfect for your school child, and a wonderful way for you to connect with other parents and feel a part of young and vibrant Jewish community.

Our programs make learning about Judaism and discovering the joy of Hebrew fun for children all the way up to entry into our Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah Program.

Do you have a Bar Mitzvah and Bnei Mitzvah Program?

Our Bar-Mitvah and Bnei-Mitzah program focuses on making the Jewish experience engaging and enjoyable. We are a  fully egalitarian synagogue, and so we are committed to giving young girls and boys an equal opportunity to shine, and achieve the same potential through the same content.

Is there a Program for Teens?

There are vibrant and exciting post Bar and Bnei Mitvah teen programs. Being a member of Ner Tamid means that as your child enters his or her mid-teens, they continue to have a "Chevrah" or peer-group, that can join up with others in the wider community through out many Conservative Jewish community resources.  Click the button below to see a sampling of the exciting teen experience adventures and service projects.
