From Gina-

A million thanks to those who joined us for Big Mitzvah Day!  Alex Mandel, Anya Lender, Jeff Simmons, Max Ader and Sol Finkelstein worked very hard to get our storage spaces organized and accessible again.

Shari Michlovitz, Terry Whitten, Becky Thien, Lanny Ladis, Nurit Mandel, Diana Finkelstein, Joan Levinson, Donna Nitti and Sharon and Leo Jassy put the kitchen back in order and it all looks great.  Thank you so very much!

Plans are shaping up for a goodbye party for Gina on May 21st.  It's a busy day, but the party begins at 11am and continues after school lets out, so that anyone who would like to say goodbye can join us. Please email Gloria Ekelchik or Christa Mandel - gekelchik@yahoo.com or christabella347@gmail.com to get in on the planning or ask a question!  See you there!

We will be playing poker, mahjong and there will be a special all ages ROOKIES table for the casual player.  But you don't have to play to enjoy the evening!  Let us know what vegetarian side dish you'll be bringing to complement the pizza.  RSVP to mbaker@sillmanwright.com or Mark’s cell: 619-540-0145. The Bergmans have graciously agreed to host. Call the office for their address.

The next meeting of the new Men's Club

Please join Alex Mandel and the other members who are putting together the new Ner Tamid Men's Club on Sunday, May 21st at 10:30 in the Conference Room next to the office.

May IS a busy month!

May 20th is our first ever Saturday morning Family Service, abbreviated, awesome, with Rabbi Caine's inimitable insights. It begins at 9:30am.  Join us for Torah readings by 6th and 7th graders, and Adon Olam led by all the other students who join us.  6th and 7th grade parents, please consider sponsoring our bagel Kiddush luncheon in honor or your child's first, (or 2nd or 3rd) Torah reading. Other interested sponsors are also welcome!

On May 21st (Sunday) at 9:30am, there will be a BBYO presentation at the San Diego Jewish Academy. The idea is that we combine with other synagogues to form a group led by teens, with help from advisors. This presentation is for PARENTS, to gauge interest and plan a kickoff for the teens.

Also on May 21st (it's a packed weekend!) Ner Tamid will have a booth at Israelfest from 2:30 to 6:30 at the San Diego Jewish Academy.  Sara Reisman is looking for volunteers to man the booth, so please email Sara at sarareismangm@gmail.com or call the office to volunteer. It's going to be fun!

Join Rabbi Caine and other rabbis from around San Diego to study and celebrate Leil Shavuot Tikkun, May 30th at 7pm at the San Diego Jewish Academy. This year's topic is 6 Days that Shaped 50 years: Jewish Teachings and Perspectives on the 6 Day War and Its Aftermath.  No cost, no RSVP needed.

Ner Tamid will hold Shavuot Services on May 31st at 9:30am, with Yizkor at about 11am.

A word of caution

Our canyon is home to many creatures, plus the other side of the property is being developed and some of their habitats may have been disrupted. This means we may be seeing more of our native snakes and coyotes around. We just ask you to keep an eye out and don't stray behind the buildings or in the undeveloped ground, just to be safe.

Thanks to

Lilianne Eichenbaum for a donation in memory of her father Charles Ohayon on his yahrzeit

Jerry and Marlene Markus for a gift in honor of the yahrzeits of Jerry's sister, Pam Sarnoff and Marlene's father, Charles Goodstein

The Jacobys for their contribution to Family Learners Shabbat Service in honor of Derek's Torah reading.
