From Gina-

You have probably read the email from Marisa announcing that I will be returning to my home town of Philadelphia at the end of May. While I am looking forward to seeing more of my younger son, I am having a very hard time with the idea of leaving Rabbi, Ner Tamid and all the members of the congregation, who have become my friends and family over the last three years. It's not an easy parting, but I know whomever takes my place will do an excellent job and you will take him or her into your hearts.

Can you help me prepare to leave by volunteering to get things in order at Ner Tamid before I go?  The kitchen needs to be reorganized, the storerooms are overflowing and there are certain other responsibilities I might ask you to take on for the near future. (Greeting people at the Friday night service, as one example.) Please email me at gina@nertamidsd.org or call the office at 858-513-8330 and let's get together on a couple of Sunday mornings and whip things into shape for my successor.

Besides, it will give me a chance to spend time with you!  Thank you!

Sunday is our Yom HaShoah Commemoration

Our Yom HaShoah Commemoration will be held this Sunday, April 23rd at Temple Adat Shalom.  Hebrew School families should drop off students at Adat Shalom for a 9:30 start.  Activities will take place in the Social Hall. Children will be making butterflies for the butterfly project. We will be bringing the butterflies back to our campus for a dedication at a later date.

For the service part of the program, we will need 2-3 children to read testimonies from children during the Holocaust. Would your child be able to practice a few times and read in front of an audience?  Please let Morah Becky know if your children could do this.

There will be a Yom HaShoah service at 11am in the Adat Shalom Sanctuary, with a candlighting involving Holocaust survivors.  We urge you to attend this moving commemoration.

The children's activity will end at 11:15 and they will join the service, hopefully with their families.  Otherwise the students can be picked up at Adat Shalom between 11:45 and noon.

The first meeting of the new organization will be held on Thursday, April 27th at Longship Brewing in 10320 Camino Santa Fe C, Mira Mesa. (right off of Flanders)  Be there at 6pm.  This is a social event and planning meeting for the future!

May will be a busy month!

The Bergmans have graciously agreed to host. Call the office for their address.

On May 21st (Sunday) at 9:30am, there will be a BBYO presentation at the San Diego Jewish Academy. The idea is that we combine with other synagogues to form a group led by teens, with help from advisors. This presentation is for PARENTS, to gauge interest and plan a kickoff for the teens.

Also on May 21st (it's a packed weekend!) Ner Tamid will have a booth at Israelfest from 2:30 to 6:30 at the San Diego Jewish Academy.  Sara Reisman is looking for volunteers to man the booth, so please email Sara at sarareismangm@gmail.com or call the office to volunteer. It's going to be fun!

Learn about Camp Ramah

Learn about Camp Ramah April 23rd at 3pm at the San Diego Jewish Academy. The director and camp families will be there to talk about the camp in Northern California and the newest Camp Ramah at the beach.  Email sarah@ramahnorcal.org to RSVP.

San Diego Jewish Food Festival

Delicious food for everyone at the San Diego Jewish Food Festival, Sunday, May 7th, 11am - 6pm, at Temple Adat Shalom.   An enlarged Kosher grill for flank steak sandwiches, Hebrew National Hot dogs and sliders, plus a vegetarian menu.  There will be Israeli dancing instruction and a wine and beer garden featuring Israeli and Kosher wines.  Tickets are $20.

Around San Diego

San Diego has its own Jewish History exhibit - “Celebrate San Diego! The History & Heritage of San Diego’s Jewish Community,” at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park.  You can also attend Art & Heritage, Three San Diego Jewish Artists: Baranceanu, Braun & Sternberg.  It explores the artwork, lives, and Jewish heritage of three historically-important San Diego artists: Belle Baranceanu, Maurice Braun, and Harry Sternberg.
