The Peak - Passover Thanks

The Peak
For the week of April 14th- April 20th, 2017
18 Nissan - 24 Nissan, 5777

Passover thanks

It was a great Second Night Seder!  The Ner Tamid House Band of Jon and Olivia Pearl, Jedd Bogage, Leo Jassy, Bob Weinstein, and Cara Freedman, with lyrics and inspiration from Rabbi Caine made it a very special Seder and evening for all.  Thanks go to Shari Michlovitz, Diana Finkelstein, and Marisa Connell for helping make the dinner so successful.

And thanks to the almost 100 people who not only attended, enjoyed the night, but also did such a spectacular job of helping to clean up!

This 5th Question from Gina: why must we always cook standing up?

Passover Reflections

From Eliyahou Hardoon to Gloria Goldstein, the Seder attendees spanned 90 years. We served vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and lots and lots of gluten-y food. Shari Michlovitz made the most delicious chocolate and toffee covered matzo for dessert. When we couldn't find Kosher for Passover butter, we whipped our own from heavy cream, and turned even more of the heavy cream into whipped cream for berries, a supremely cake-free dessert.  We survived the Great Romaine Lettuce Shortage of 2017.  Now we are left with the 5th Question: why is always necessary to cook standing up?

It Takes a Village

Sometimes we have things we need specific help with: the kitchen, preparing for a holiday, reorganizing storage.

And sometimes, we don't know what we need is what you have to offer. Confusing? Here are a few examples: Gigi Cohen is a wiz with our Facebook page.  Gerry Weitz has come forward to help with the website. Alex Mandel is working on another movie night.  What can you contribute?  Talk to a board member, the Rabbi or call the office.  THANKS!

To any members that have an outstanding balance: The first week of April you will receive an email titled "April Statement." Please review it for accuracy and contact gina@nertamidsd.org immediately if there is a discrepancy.

Donations

We received a generous donation from Marilyn Steinweg to offset the cost of the Seder.

From Jack Frank for the yahrzeits of his mother, Julia Frank, his brother, Max Frank, and Ethel and Morris Stein, the father and mother of his wife Beverly.

Seen at Ner Tamid

That's a picture of a roadrunner, one of which was seen running across the gravel here with an unlucky lizard in its mouth.  Since we know we have coyotes in the canyon, we simply ask you not to accept any deliveries from the Acme Company......

San Diego Jewish Food Festival

Delicious food for everyone at the San Diego Jewish Food Festival, Sunday, May 7th, 11am - 6pm, at Temple Adat Shalom.   An enlarged Kosher grill for flank steak sandwiches, Hebrew National Hot dogs and sliders, plus a vegetarian menu.  There will be Israeli dancing instruction and a wine and beer garden featuring Israeli and Kosher wines.  Tickets are $20, and if you buy them online before April 8th you get a 25% discount.

Around San Diego

San Diego has its own Jewish History exhibit - “Celebrate San Diego! The History & Heritage of San Diego’s Jewish Community,” at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park.  You can also attend Art & Heritage, Three San Diego Jewish Artists: Baranceanu, Braun & Sternberg.  It explores the artwork, lives, and Jewish heritage of three historically-important San Diego artists: Belle Baranceanu, Maurice Braun, and Harry Sternberg.
