Our Board of Directors

Marisa Connell, President

Marisa Connell joined Ner Tamid in 2011, after relocating to San Diego from upstate New York. Immediately drawn to Ner Tamid, she and her enthusiastic now-7 year old daughter quickly became regulars.  Marisa and another member soon started our Rosh Chodesh women's group (questions? please contact her!) to grow the bond between the women of our community and - to be frank! - make friends! She is grateful to the people she has met at Ner Tamid and looks forward to meeting more as our kehillah grows. In the real world, Marisa works in program management at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. You can reach her at

Jon Pearl, Executive Vice President

Jonathan Pearl is one of the newest members to join the board (January 2016) and is excited about the opportunity to serve the synagogue and its members.  Lisa, Jon and their three daughters live in Scripps Ranch.  Their oldest daughters celebrated Bat Mitzvahs at Ner Tamid in 2013 and 2015.  Jon is a partner at a law firm in San Diego where he focuses on labor, employment and education law issues.  Jon encourages members and prospective members to contact him if they have questions, concerns, ideas or news to share at

But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when?" (Avot 1:14).   David can usually be found davening at Shabbat services, hanging out with the Sunday minyan, and trying not to fold at the quarterly Ner Tamid Poker Tournaments.

Evan Cohen, VP. Education

Evan Cohen joined Ner Tamid in 2012 with his wife Gigi, and daughters Monica and Sierra. Monica attends CSU San Marcos (his alma mater!) and Sierra is in 2nd grade and attends our Hebrew school. When he's not surfing in Del Mar or hanging out with family and friends, you can find Evan at his Encinitas office of Edward Jones Investments where he provides finance, investment and retirement planning guidance to families in North County San Diego.

After a few years working in hospital software, Sara "retired" to take care of their 3 kids - Maya (21), Jeri (18) and Jake (15). Ner Tamid has become such an important extended family to the Reisman family. Sara, along with her husband, Joe, and kids love to host a Ner Tamid party!

Mark Baker, VP, Grounds & Facilities

Diana Finkelstein, VP, Communications

Diana Finkelstein is one of newest Board members, having joined Ner Tamid with her husband, Sol, in 2015. Originally from Canada, Diana has resided in the San Diego area for almost 40 years, raising two daughters and acquiring two sons in law and one granddaughter in the interim. A retired nurse, she enjoys painting, reading, Mahjong and dining out. Seeing a need for an empty nesters group at Ner Tamid, Diana started a Gourmet Group two years ago which has been going strong ever since.
